John David WebsterIn May, a fundraiser being held in Sprinfield, MO used John David Webster's current hit, ‘Miracle', as its theme song to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. The campaign collected $30,000 to help the organization continue to provide funds to children's hospitals. "It's so awesome to hear that my song 'Miracle' was used as the theme song for this...! This is the type of thing that fuels the fire of why I do what I do," Webster said upon hearing about the Springfield fundraiser. "It also means so much more to me because my nephew is in Riley Hospital, one of the hospitals sponsored by the Children's Miracle Network. I'm so thankful to be a part of this incredible story!"

Webster is relatively new to the Christian music scene, but he isn't new to performing. The Indianapolis native has been singing on the road for the past three years, working closely with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and other national worship events. His first album, Made to Shine, came out towards the beginning of the year and ‘Miracle' has since made it into the Top 10 on the R & R Christian AC charts and is number five on XM 32 - The Fish.

John David WebsterOne of Made to Shine's gentler songs is ‘Now' and “it talks about that feeling of complete surrender, of letting go and letting God take control," Webster explains. "Throughout my life there have been times I struggled and fought with myself over what I know I should do. God's just always there to pour out more grace. Jesus said that unless you become like a child, you won't enter the kingdom. My first response to getting more responsibility in my career was to take more control-but this song's about giving God everything, and that place of peace afterward. I wonder why don't I let go? Why do I fight so hard? I find all I need is God."

Webster will be traveling nationwide with the New Faces Tour from June 1st to December 31st. The tour will also include the comedian Bob Smiley, and musicans, Charity Von, Jadon Lavik and Brittany Waddell.

Baseball Was Not In The Cards For Jadon Lavik

Jadon LavikThe current Fresh Fish artist, Jadon Lavik, has a song, “Let it Go”, featured in an upcoming summer movie, The Perfect Man. It will be released on June 17th and Lavik says to “make sure you go and check it out... the movie is a romantic ‘chick flick' starring Heather Locklear and Hillary Duff... guys, don't be caught in the movie theatre alone…”Reviews of the blockbuster, rated PG, describe it as a comedy, drama and romance.

Currently Lavik is recording his second album to be released at the end of the summer. Lavik didn't grow up wanting to be a musican, in fact he pursued a baseball career at Westmont University where he studied business finance. At college he learned guitar and began to sing at a local church, in the process discovering the power of music. Upon graduation he moved to Orange County, Calif., where he was applying for a job in commercial real estate when he had an unexpected conversation with the worship leader at Saddleback Church, Rick Muchow. “That was confirmation enough for me to take the leap of faith and follow God's leading,” Lavik recalls.

Moving On Faith CD coverDuring his two-year internship at Saddleback he had opportunities to travel abroad, the experiences gained through his work providing inspiration for Moving on Faith (2004). “I … write about the things God is teaching me day by day. It's about not being attached or consumed by the things of this world, it's about filtering life through heavenly lenses, and seeing the world the way God sees it…broken, unfinished, unfulfilling, hurting, needing, and yet purposeful… hopeful.”

At this time there is no title for the new record. Stay tuned to XM 32 - The Fish for all the details.

"Dance Like There's No One Watching"

Chris Tomlin Live!“People will be surprised by some moments,” Chris Tomlin says about his new album, Arriving. “The music's so honest. The guys and I are just playing our songs the way we play them. That's something special thing about the record— what you see is what you get.”

Two of Tomlin's songs, “Indescribable” and “Holy Is The Lord”, made him the first artist in radio history to have singles simultaneously in the Top 10 on the R & R's Christian AC chart.“I feel as though we're like this landing strip in the desert for our great, incredible God to arrive on; a way for Him to come into people's lives,” Tomlin says of his third studio record, inspired by Isaiah 40.

This spring Tomlin published The Way I Was Made, a book with “words and music for an unusual life”. He uses his own life experiences of how he has sought to be “one of God's fame builders” to encourage believers “to spread [God's] renown to everyone we meet by what we say and do.” Tomlin also includes the stories behind his most popular songs, such as “Forever,” “We Fall Down,” “Enough,” “Indescribable,” and others. Tomlin says his prayer is that when you're finished reading his book, “you'll discover in these precious days that you have been created for a great life – a life that tells the story of God.”

On The Road With The Afters

Tractor-trailerMatt Fuqua, of the Afters, posted this interesting picture on the band's blog with the following explanation: "This is crazy but on my way to get our van serviced I passed this. What you are seeing is an 18 wheeler that just went under a bridge that was to low for his trailer and the top of it is now laying behind. I thought it was funny, I actually laughed out loud."

The Afters just released their first album, I Wish We Could All Win, in the end of February and are the first band to sign with a new label, Simple/INO Records, formed by Bart Millard and Pete Kipley of MercyMe. The first Fish single, "Beautiful Love," has been getting much praise nationwide from XM 32 listeners as well as at MTV-U. The band has been chosen as an "Advance Warning" artist at MTV.

The song was inspired by a coversation that guitarist and vocalist, Josh Havens was having with his wife, Kara, on the phone. Kara called him from a mission trip in Mexico where her team was building houses. Havens recalls," I remeber she told me about how one of the family's homes was nothing more than some wood scraps that were strapped together with a tarp thrown over the top. THe needed some more room for their growing family so they leaned a piece of plywood agaist the side and called it a bedroom for 2 of their kids. After our conversation, I was thinking about how Kara was actually living out the gospel by helping those in need, loving the unloved, and following the Great Comission by sharing Christ's love with others."

The Afters began with informal gigs at a Mesquite, Texas Starbucks, where Havens and Fuqua worked together. "I'm sure we weren't supposed to be playing music on the clock, but the customers liked it," Havens jokes. This past spring, the Afters toured with MercyMe, and this fall are headed on the road with the Restored Tour lead by Jeremy Camp and other guests, Tree 63 and Bethany Dillon. The tour will be hitting over 40 cities between September 2nd and November 21st.

Well, you may ask "what happened to LaRue?" Honestly, they both got married. After their last CD, Reaching, the brother and sister team, Natalie and Phillip stopped being LaRue, the sibling supergroup and became a wife and a husband respectively. Phillip got married to Lia and the couple just celebrated two years together. Natalie got married next. As Phillip puts it, "Natalie married her South African stud, Rob Murray and moved to California to partner in ministry together about a year and a half ago." What is very cool is this quote came from Phillip's new column at CMCentral.com titled, LaRue on Life. Phillip promises in his opening blog, "I know there are probably people more eloquent and better writers than myself so I don't want to try and pretend to be anything that I'm not. So I hope expectations won't be too high. But I feel humbled by this opportunity to share my thoughts on life the Church and faith."

Like the music of LaRue, the column will speak of the intensity, passion and openness that God wants to have with his people. Both LaRue's have been planted in the local church of their newfound communities. It is a lot different for the siblings compared to the lifestyle of performing artists. Phillip writes, "Spiritually speaking I've really been broken by God the last couple of years. I guess maybe it was a combination of getting married and also losing a very close friend of ours last year that has been part of the re-construction of my heart and faith. Being off the road has also been really refreshing; getting planted in a local body and being reminded of how I can be used for God's kingdom on a local level."

Phillip also mentioned that he is still working for his label, Word Entertainment, producing records and writing songs. However, what connects him more than anything in life is his hope to share the beauty of God's love. He says, "I believe right now God's heart is breaking for His bride and those that don't know his love. So I hope you will enjoy what God has laid on my heart of late."

Maybe God is saying this to you too....

Join Natalie Grant In Building A 'Home' For The Victims of Human Trafficking and Child Prostitution

The Home Foundation

Natalie GrantNatalie Grant recently returned from India where she discovered what she is to do for the rest of her life. While in India with the organization dedicated to ministering to the victims of human trafficking, Shared Hope, she had a realization of her true calling. In an interview with the trade magazine, Radio and Records, she described an experience that changed her life. She recalled, "We came out of a brothel and were walking up the street, and I looked up. In a second story window there was probably about a seven year old girl." She tearfully recounted to R&R, "She was in a cage. I'll never forget seeing her. I don't know what I was more disturbed by - the fact that people walked by and didn't notice her because it was such a normal way of life or the fact that she was in a cage. Our eyes locked and I thought I was going to throw up."

Grant continued, "I asked the Indian man who was with us why she was in a cage. He said, 'She's probably new. The new girls are put in cages because they fight. They don't know what they are being asked to do, and when they figure it out, they start fighting, so they keep them in their cage to break their spirit.'"

With the memory of this little girl locked in a cage "that," she knows, "will never leave me," she decided she had to do something. But what? While in India, she got to see the only medical clinic which is located in the red light district she visited in Bombay. She also visited a village that was set up by Shared Hope that made her feel like she "walked into heaven." Shared Hope rehabilitated the children there who have an AIDS rate of about 85%. They teach them in the school and do job skill training for the older cases.

Having seen all the horrors and the dedication of lives to transform the broken children, Grant set out to figure out a way to raise awareness. She thought of working with Shared Hope or even the International Justice Mission which held their annual prayer conference in Washington, DC this past weekend. She could not decide and instead she opted to start her own foundation. In a passionate understanding she looks at her life in complete perspective. In the R&R interview she states, "I knew I wanted to raise money. I wanted to build them a clinic. They do not have a medical clinic in the village. For those that get sick it is a 2 1/2 hour trip. Second, they do not want to go back to where they came from. You don't want to take them back to that street." She continues, "I thought I would start my own foundation [because] I also needed to raise awareness. On December 31, 2004, we got clearance from the government to be a non-profit, so I started a foundation called The Home Foundation because I wrote a song for the girls called 'Home.' The main reason for doing so is because what I do for a living is sing. I don't have any overhead, and I can give a 100% of the money straight to where I want it to go."

You can give to The Home Foundation by visiting the website. It's mission statement reads, "The HOME Foundation exists to fight the horrors of human trafficking and the sex trade, raise awareness, and to assist in the rescue and restoration of human beings in crisis, both in the United States and around the world." To find out more about what you can do to fight human trafficking, visit The Home Foundation, Shared Hope or The International Justice Mission, or Justice For Children International too.

Petra Stops The Rock...

John Schlitt & Bob Hartman
John Schlitt and Bob Hartman of Petra are calling it quits.

After 33 years of bringing great rock music to the masses, Christian pop pioneers, Petra are calling it quits and heading to social security. According to Josh Renaud, managing editor of Petra Rocks My World, an online Petra fanzine, the band had been rumored to be discussing their retirement while on tour in Europe. Renaud quotes founding member Bob Hartman, "it's time to call it quits. This will most likely be our last year of ministry. We don't expect to be doing any concerts after November at the latest."

Jekyll & HydeThe talk of retirement for the band has been going on for quite a while. The band had plans to release a follow-up to 2001's and Grammy nominated, Jekyll & Hyde but things were put on hold as the band, the label and management could not agree on what that record should be. According to Petra Rocks My World, a live recording was contemplated after the new studio project idea was scrapped. Renaud writes, "Hartman said that Inpop had started talking about delaying a studio album and first releasing a 'best-of' album to drum up interest and support." Renaud quotes Hartman, "We figured if it's that hard to get any interest in the band, then we should call it a day."

Petra
Petra circa 2004

For 33 years, Petra defined going out in front, breaking new ground in worship, songwriting and rocking for Christ as a vocational ministry. From the heyday years when glam rock ruled the culture, Petra showed the world that they could rock and perform with the best pop acts out there without compromising their beliefs. Afterall, Petra means 'Rock!' The band showed the music industry the validity of Christian pop music and paved the way for artists like Stryper who recently reunited and are planning their own full-length studio release. "The key thing for us has been to know what our calling is," says Bob Hartman, Petra's guitarist and primary songwriter. "Going all the way back to the beginning, that's how we learned who we were — from our roots. It's the basis for what we do, and having that foundation in place has helped us to never take for granted what we're doing and to always realize it's a gift from God."

Petra's 33 year career includes the release of 20 albums with sales of over 7 million, 4 Grammy's, 10 Dove Awards and induction into the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame. Petra Rocks My World confirms that the band management declared an official announcement will be coming from the band via their website on Thursday.

Bart Millard and Fish Annoucer, Bruce Ladson
Bart Millard @ XM with Fish
afternoon host, Bruce Ladson

In celebration of our MercyMe and Jeremy Camp broadcast coming this Memorial Day Weekend, we would like to share with you some great news. Lead Vocalist of MercyMe, Bart Millard will be releasing a new project of hymns he has known and loved all his life. Millard came to know the music on the forthcoming album entitled Hymned from the passing down of the songs through his grandmother singing them over him as a child. Millard explains, "My grandmother, Ruby Lindsey, was an amazing woman. I have a vivid memory of her singing every song on this record to me and my brother growing up. Of course she sang hundreds, so I just had to weed through them and choose my favorites."

Hymned will feature guest artists such as Vince Gill joining Millard on "Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior," and pedal steele, rock 'n' blues player, Robert Randolph on the track, "Sweetest Name I Know." Other guests include labelmate, Derek Webb and Russ Taff. Millard and his wife have always known and sang hymns growing up. The both of them have an affection for their timelessness. Millard remarks, "My wife and I grew up together in a church where we sang hymns every Sunday - there was no such thing as contemporary worship - these hymns were as contemporary as it got. All of our memories are fond of that time - no matter how boring or great it was, we just smile looking back on it now. So, when my 3 - year old son Sam was born, it hit me that he probably wouldn't have these memories that we have, and it was just kind of sad to me. I hope this record will help me share these special songs with him."

XM 32 - The Fish reminds you to sing the Word of the Lord to your children, you never know how it may effect them.

Wes King's Condition Worsens - Artist's Cancer Fight In A Critcal Stage
( reprinted CMCENTRAL.com exclusive)

Wes King

The following message was relayed to CMCentral from a close friend of Wes King's family:

"I visited Wes at his home last Thursday, he was in his second round of chemo treatments and it was making him very ill. Since my visit last week Wes' health has taken a turn for the worse. Apparently due to the chemo treatments, his immune system has been so decimated that he is extremely susceptible to infection. Wes came down with two infections and by Saturday morning one had turned into pneumonia. Wes was in and out of the ICU twice and we came very close at one point to losing him. They have him stabalized right now and he is currently out of the ICU and in an isolation room at the hospital. It has been a very difficult, scary and exhausting weekend for the King family. Thank you all once again for your prayers and support!

Again, please keep Wes and his family in your prayers."

Nichole Nordeman's Brave Return

Nichole NordemanIt has been three years since Nichole Nordeman has had a record out. Now on May 24, 2005 her new CD, Brave will hit stores with much anticipation. In 2003 Nordeman took many Dove Awards on the heals of her third release, Woven and Spun. What was so powerful about that moment was seeing the person of Nichole Nordeman humbled by the honor given for being what she has been all of her life, a worshipper at the piano. In her bio she says, "I sat down at the piano and I just couldn't write. I had a hundred things to say, a hundred song titles in my head. I just assumed that because what I really wanted to write about was God's goodness and how that goodness is woven into the everyday moments, that the writing would be easy. Instead, I would just sit and stare at the keys for months at a time....I wouldn't even call it 'writer's block,' it was like 'God-block'. I knew I just had to take that time and soak up the silence, instead of resenting it. I had to listen and wait." Woven and Spun was a testimony of intimacy with Jesus that captivated listeners and put Nordeman at the forefront in CCM.

Now Nordeman is taking new chances on Brave as she even hired a new producer. In a recent interview posted at her website she remarked, “I worked with a (producer/musician) named Jay Joyce (Patty Griffin, The Wallflowers) who is insanely talented. But he insisted that I bravely speak into the direction of these songs,” Nichole says. “It felt really wonderful to build these songs from the ground up. I think that we covered some fresh musical ground, without giving anybody whiplash. I grew up a lot. So did my songs. So did the production.”

The title track, "Brave," was originally wrtten for her son Charlie. It is about being in a place of dependecy on Christ. It is an odd title that Nordeman explains, "You find yourself stopping at nothing to ensure the safety, comfort or even giggles of your child. But more than that, the verse in Philippians ( I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength) took on new meaning for me this past year. I'm a pretty hard-headed, independent person, who craves self-sufficiency. I figured out recently the bravest word you could ever utter to Jesus is, "help." I feel a new sense of courage now...the kind that comes only after immense fear."

Never resting on past accomplisments or formulas, Nichole Nordeman returns fully assured and confident in her Lord.

PlumbTiffany Arbuckle Lee, a.k.a Plumb, just gave birth to a 6lb. 6 oz. baby boy which her and her husband, Jeremy, named Solomon Fury Lee. Solomon is 19 inches long and was born at 6:02 AM. Plumb has been nuturing along her follow-up recording to Sink or Swim as well. The new project, Chaotic Resolve, was being finished in the mixing process and entering the artwork and mastering phase. Tiffany was obviously pregnant all during the recording process of Chaotic Resolve that was done in Los Angeles with Mark Endert (Fiona Apple, Maroon 5) at the controls. Tiffany has decided to take off 12 weeks following the birth of Solomon to become adept at motherhood and getting Solomon on the baby schedule. She has promised a single from the new record although no release date has been etched on the calendar.

Many of Plumb's songs deal directly with various forms of the epidemic of shame and hurt resulting from things such as sexual, physical or verbal abuse, or feelings of entrapment and suicide resulting from a subject that is often not brought up in public. The album, Chaotic Resolve will be not much different in approach to subject matter and she promised more than just a rock n roll record. She wrote, "The newest song, 'Cut,' is dedicated to anyone who has experienced abuse. Each album I’ve released, as many of you know, has had a song dedicated to those who’ve suffered such brutality... I’ve written “Cut”...which is exactly what the content of the song is inspired from. Cutting. I hope, once again, those of you who relate to such a subject can continue to find hope and strength through songs like these. You are my muse, my inspiration and also my accountability to such a matter."

Tiffany also proposed a book on overcoming abuse. The title will be taken from one of her songs. It will be called, Damaged - True Stories of 10 Women Who Found Hope After Abuse. The book will be from interviews she conducted with various women who went through the tragedy of abuse whether it was verbal, physical sexual or otherwise. Tiffany has been taking stories from women via email through her website. She is pooring through them to select those that will be compiled for the book. She humbly thanked the women who were sharing their stories by posting to her site at various times, "I’m still interviewing women as to choose what stories I have the privilege of being the pen and ink for. Everyone’s story is unique and sacred. I’m interviewing numerous women and selecting 10 or 12, so, that not only will there be many different angles to relate to in the different chapters of the book, but also that I can understand even more the different emotions and repercussions of the many different forms of abuse. Any of you still interested in sharing your story...please e-mail me."

Amy GrantAmy Grant has been asked by the excutive producers of the reality TV series, Average Joe, to host a new reality series, Three Wishes. Three Wishes is a reality series that will be an unscripted look as Amy Grant and a team of experts go to small town America to help make the hopes and unbelievable dreams come true for people. “Everyone secretly wants the chance to fulfill a lifelong wish that seems beyond their grasp -- and this show will help transform those dreams into a life-changing reality,” said Jeff Gaspin, President, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment & Cross-Platform Strategy, who made the announcement.

Amy Grant was emotionally charged by the pilot series which will feature a full range of wishes from paying tribute to an unsung hero, helping a family in the midst of loved one's medical crisis, a fullfillment of a sports fantasy, saving a factory from closing down and even a local town from going economically bankrupt. Grant commented, : “When I heard about this show, I was extremely moved by NBC and the production company’s concept to provide incredibly positive changes in the lives of different people. Seeing the initial prep work the producers had done for the pilot episode gave me reason to look at my own life -- and remind myself, once again, to never underestimate the impact that one life can have on another. I knew that whoever wound up hosting this show was going to have a front-row seat to some pretty amazing interaction with some very deserving people. I’m so glad my name was thrown into the pot and I look forward to working with NBC Universal Television Studio and executive producer Andrew Glassman -- and I hope that together, we are able to make a lot of dreams come true.”

You can read more about the NBC pilot at NBC.com where you can also submit your wish as well.

Joy WilliamsJoy Williams came on the Christian music scene as a teenager singing wonderful catchy pop-tunes. The California native no sooner graduated from highschool and went right into the world of music. She immediately moved from the west coast to Nashville to release her debut CD, Joy Williams in 2001. From there it was the life on the road for the young aspiring artist that included long bus rides and lonely hotels as she toured America. In 2002, Williams released her second album, By Surprise. She commented back then about the whirlwind introduction to adulthood, “It’s been a hard year, but it’s been a good year. There have been times when I’ve felt so alone but then so content with the companionship of Christ. I have discovered so much peace in the midst of so much change. God has been making what I like to call ‘divine exchanges’ in my life. I’ve enjoyed seeing my desire for surfing dwindle and my hunger to invest in people grow. If I don’t allow God to continually change me and my desires, I’ll become complacent and I won’t have anything to offer anyone.”

Joy WilliamsWilliams spent the following year touring in support of By Surprise. In 2003, she got nominated for 3 Dove Awards including Female Vocalist Of The Year (she has been nominated again this year). In the midst of all the change for the barely 21 year old artist, God was obviously working in her personal life too. She met Nate Yetton and the two were married in 2004. At the accomplished age of 22, Joy Williams is set to release her third album on May 3. The record will be called Genesis and is produced by Matt Bronwelee (Natalie Imbrigulia, Michael W. Smith). Williams has taken a more personal role in the process of making this record, co-writing with Bronwelee all the songs on the recording. She has grown-up from the California teen and as God challenges her with change, Williams leans back on Him. She commented, "This album really highlights the up and down seasons of life.. "It's the journey of self-discovery, new beginnings, falling in love; my fingerprints are all over it. I really feel like I'm making my first album."

Michael W. Smith and Jars of Clay Launch ONE in the Spirit

(press release from Michael W. Smith.com)

Michale W SmithMichael W. Smith and Jars of Clay launched ONE in the Spirit, a faith video in support of The ONE Campaign to fight global AIDS and poverty in Nashville, Tennessee. The three-minute video, featuring 16 of the biggest names in Christian music, will be featured at concerts, music festivals and places of worship across America in 2005 to rally support for The ONE Campaign - a coalition of the nation's leading relief and advocacy organizations.

"I am so proud to stand here with this powerful group of artists in support of The ONE Campaign," Smith said at a press conference to launch the video. "The emergency of global AIDS and poverty calls out to all of our hearts. Together, ONE by ONE, we can all make a difference in the lives of the poorest of God's children."

From concert venues to church halls to voting booths, the voices of the Christian community are stronger and more relevant than ever in America. ONE in the Spirit is a rallying call to the faith community to lend their voices to the poorest of the poor as part of The ONE Campaign.

In poor countries, there are approximately 6 million AIDS patients in need of lifesaving medicines but only 700,000 currently have access. More than a billion people - including half the population of Sub-Saharan Africa - live on less than $1 a day.

Dan Haseltine"When President Bush launched the Millennium Challenge to help the world's poorest help themselves, he declared 'There are no second class citizens in the human race,'" said Jars of Clay lead singer Dan Haseltine. "God has charged us all with ensuring dignity for his or her neighbor. I hope all of our listeners - and all Americans - will join with The ONE Campaign to make that dignity a reality for every person on earth."

Barlow GirlIt has been quite a whirlwind of a year for Barlow Girl. The band of sisters whom Superchick honored with their 2002 hit, "Barlow Girl," a song about the true purity of a woman, is up for 4 Dove Award nominations including New Artist of The Year. The band's self-titled debut album which is nominated for Best Rock Contemporary Album, sold over 200,000 copies which was more than any other debut artist in 2004. The song, "Never Alone" held the top spot on CHR charts for 9 weeks and is nominated for Best Rock Contemporary Song. The band also garnered a nomination for Special Event Album for their contribution to the compilation Absolute Christmas. “It is such an honor to be nominated with so many amazing artists,” says BarlowGirl. “This has been such an awesome year for us- filled with one surprise after another! We feel so blessed that God has allowed us to be apart of what He is doing through music.”

Barlow Girl is three sisters named, Becca, Alyssa and Lauren Barlow. The girls use to back up their dad when he led worship. Then one day, they began to write songs on their own about purity, trusting God and their "no dating stance" on relationships. Mom and Dad Barlow became their managers. Barlow Girl recently teamed with Lifeway to launch their True Love Waits Campign. They have based their stance and have found their firm security in Romans 12:2. Do not conform, be transformed. Alyssa Barlow states, “We look at our culture that tells us what to wear, what to watch, what to think – which can be a really a dangerous lifestyle. This only leads to heartache, and many of our problems are related to this striving to conform. We say in our songs to be different- that there is a reason God made us different and why we have different paths to walk out.”

Apparently, the message resounds.

Jump 5Forever young, Jump 5 has taken video gaming to the next level of educational expertise. The group unveiled their new video game, Jump 5 Video Director. The video game goes "behind the scenes" of making a music video. The game player is basically the director as they get to use the camera, stage effects, wardrobe, coreogrpahed dance moves and music of Jump 5 to create a personalized music video. "I'm proud of this video game because it's good for young players," says Jump5's Brittany Hargest. "With so many video games today focused on violence and negativity, we wanted to create an action game that offers a positive influence. By tapping into all the creativity involved in making a music video, children will be able to practice and learn new skills. And parents can feel good about this game too." Many elements of decision making in the professional process of making a video are incorporated into the game. In other Jump 5 news, the band is getting ready to release the Very Best of Jump 5 on March 15. Fans can pre-order an autogrpahed version of the CD through their website. Also, Brittany's older brother and fellow "Jump5-er", Brandon Hargest, is recovering from knee surgery which was required from bad cartilage. His mom has set-up his XBOX for him while he heals. Perhaps he can learn to make a music video.

GOSPEL GRAMMY WINNERS!

Grammy Awards

Third DayIf you were home on Sunday evening, you might have caught the Grammy Awards program on television. There were some categories reserved for Christian music and and XM 32 The Fish wants to remind you of those winners from the 47th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. In the Best Rock Gospel Album category, which included hip-hop records in two of the five nominations, Third Day received their second career Grammy for their latest CD, Wire. Third Day won the same 2003 Grammy Award for Come Together. The band has received 6 total grammy nominations. Wire debuted at #1 on Soundscan's Top Christian Albums chart and #12 on Billboard's Top 200 when it released. JARS OF CLAY FANS UPSET AT DOVE 'SNUB'

Jars Of Clay

The Jars of Clay fansite, Jarchives has been on fire as of late as fans have been protesting the fact that Jars Of Clay did not receive a major nomination for Who We Are Instead. The song, "Show You Love," garnered a nomination for Rock/ Contemporary Recorded Song Of The Year, a category which hardly defines the band's last studio effort of original material. Who We Are Instead was nominated for a Grammy in the more aptly named Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. In the minds of the fans, the band nor the record received proper accolades. In response to the fans disgruntled reaction, lead vocal Jar, Dan Haseltine, responded at the forum on the fansite. His response was more than just an expression of thankfulness to the fan enthusiasm and "disappointment" over not being nominated. Haseltine also noted, "Ultimately, the reasons for making music and engaging in the arts have nothing to do with winning Dove Awards. It is nice to be acknowledged, but in an industry that still has a long way to go in supporting true artistry and not simply perpetuating a "cultural Christianity," we must not get discouraged."

Dan HaseltineHe then went onto lament the tension of the CCM industry in which the band exists. He asked, "How do we seek to develop as artists that can speak into the lives of both Christians and non-Christians, uphold our belief that being excellent artists is as much a reflection of the Gospel as any verbal testimony, and continue to write songs that challenge and serve the greater story of redemption well, AND hold a highly visible spot in a Christian genre and industry that does not necessarily put the same kind of value on these things?" He answered, "[it] seems impossible" adding, "I do not know many, if any, artists that are dedicated to these same values, and have a strong high profile status in the CCM world. And we are alright with this arrangement...."

Haseltine acknowledged Switchfoot's recognition by the GMA for their hard work and success for The Beautiful Letdown. Switchfoot received three Dove nominations including Artist Of The Year and Group of The Year. He shared, "We love the Switchfoot guys, and are happy to let them shine this year. They have worked very hard. So we will be rooting for them. We are also very thankful that "Show You Love" was nominated." Jars of Clay has just finished their new record, Redemption Songs and the first single, "God Will Lift Up Your Head" will debut next week on XM 32 The Fish.

VIOLENCE EDITED VERSION OF THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST TO BE RELEASED TO THEATRES MARCH 11, 2005

Passion Of The Christ MovieThe Passion of The Christ has been re-cut for a pre-Easter theater release. Mel Gibson has trimmed five to six minutes of violent scenes, and the new version of the top grossing foreign language film of all time will go out on 500-750 screens by beginning March 11. The new cut has not been rated, adds Variety Magazine. Gibson showed a preliminary version to the ratings board but it still garnered the "R" which the original had at its release last February. The original film grossed $370.2 million. In response to a certain demographic that refused to see the movie due to the graphic depiction of the passion and death of Jesus, Gibson cut a less-violent version of his film. The segment that was significantly edited for this year's theater run was when Jesus Christ was tortured by Roman troops."There are no new scenes, and the cuts are limited to the more violent aspects of the film, if that's the right term," said Bruce Davey, Gibson's partner in Icon Productions. "The scourging scene in particular has been substantially adjusted."

The film will be released in US markets and is expected to run through Easter weekend. The Passion Of The Christ recently received attention at the Oscar nominating ceremonies when it was nominated for three Academy Awards which include Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Make-Up and Achievement in Music (Original Score). Critics of the Academy vocalized that the film was snubbed because it did not receive any Best Actor/Supporting Actor nominations. There are hints that The Passion Of The Christ could be an annual theater release for the entire season of "Lent" from Ash Wednesday to Resurrection Sunday.

Rebecca St. James
Rebecca St. James

Having recently returned from touring around the world and spending time in Australia, Rebecca St. James is heading back to the studio! Last year, she spent much of her time co-authoring her latest book, She. The only album released was a compliation of her greatest hits over her 10-years of public ministry, called Wait For Me: The Best. It included two now-familiar tunes..."I Thank You" and "Expressions Of Your Love." However, Rebecca St. James fans' better be ready for some fresh new energy! St. James bursted onto the Christian music scene with a powerful vocal style in songs that were reminiscent of early female-fronted alternative rock acts in the mainstream. Her debut album, God was an anthemic retaliation against the messages of the -grunge genaration of the mid-90's. Forthright and really evangelistic, the song "God" and the powerful "Your The Voice" sent shockwaves of hope through the church youth culture. Now, The Fish has learned that fans can expect a departure from the slower melodic pop and a return to the roots of her career. According to sources, the new album will be focused on St. James'ROCK abilities. Even though there has been the lack of new music from her, St. James has been named Favorite Female Artist of the Year by CCM Magazine readers for the 2nd year in a row! Stay tuned to Fish Stories for updates!

GEORGE ROWE KICKS OFF 2005 WITH CHRISTIAN CRUISE

George Rowe

Rocketown recording artist George Rowe recently joined Natalie Grant, ZoeGirl, Kristy Starling, Tammy Trent and The Katinas on a tour of the Caribbean. Teaming with the Salem Radio Network and a number of FISH radio stations and guests, the artists boarded the Carnival Cruise ship Victory and spent a week on the open seas leading worship and exploring such ports as Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Jamaica.

"I loved having the opportunity to be with the people on this trip, the people who are on both sides of the radio," said Rowe. "It was great getting to know the guests. I had a blast hanging out with the other artists and their spouses, and the people from the FISH Radio/Salem Radio Network were so fun too! As much as anything else, it was a special time for Merritt and me. No phones, no email, no alarm clocks and no kids (I admit, I missed our kids). Not since our honeymoon have we had time away, just the two of us, like this."

In addition to writing songs for a new album (scheduled for an early fall release), Rowe is staying busy in 2005 with a number of volunteer efforts. On Feb. 9, he will lend his voice to a tsunami relief concert at the Rocketown club in Nashville along with fellow artists Avalon, David Phelps, Rachel Lampa, Tait, Anthony Evans and more. The event and silent auction will benefit Operation Blessing, a non-profit international relief organization founded by CBN president, M.G. "Pat" Robertson.

While surfing the net, you can plug into their new site dedicated to the Zoegirl Fan Club. Members of the fan club will have access to message boards, exclusive ZG photo journals, video greetings, newsletters, and an opportunity for a meet and greet at the concert in your area! You'll also want to see this website for the new 'do' each girl is sportin'.

By the way, ever wonder what ZOEgirl means? Well, the word "zoe" is found in the Greek New Testament and it means "life", more specifically "eternal life" or "life in Christ." Chrissy, Alisa, and Kristin chose that word as a symbol of girls living for God. I guess it could be ZOEguy as well, but the girl seems more appropriate. Their new CD hits stores on March 15.

Caedmon's Call Has New Initiative For Share The Well

Caedmon's Call

The members of Caedmon's Call have never backed down from their calling to serve. Throughout their twelve year history, Caedmon's Call has been supporting ministires like Compassion International in foreign countries. The band has traveled extensively throughout Central and South America in countries like Bolivia and Haiti. Since the mid-nineties, they have faithfully supported India's Peace Gospel Ministries who work directly with the poor in that country. In the spring of 2004, with the release of Share The Well came the formation of the band's foundation, Share The Well. Share The Well is an album that focuses on the needs of poor worldwide, particularly in India with the class of people known as "Dalits." Dalit means "oppressed"or "untouchable." These people are born into a class where Hindu society believes they should remain because of the sins of their ancestors. In a statement on the band's website, vocalist, Cliff Young explains the band's motive, "In America, we live by a self-centered version of Christianity. We forget the Great Commission. We think we aren't called to help people because our gifts and talents lie elsewhere. Instead, we should be asking how we can use the gifts we've been given to go to all the world and live out the message of the Gospel."

Share the Well CDSince the Tsunami in Southeast Asia happened last December, those needs of the poor have been crystalized. The band has taken a new initiative with their Share The Well Foundation. Through the bands website, you can donate to Share The Well and the money will be directly sent to either Compassion International or the Dalit Freedom Network. To raise awareness, the band is currently on the Share The Well Tour! Caedmon's Call will be sweeping the Northeast, and even taking an upward dive into Canada. Andrew Peterson will be opening for the folk-rock group. Peterson is known for a ministry very similar to the late Rich Mullins.Check out the website of Caedmon's Call for more info on the tour which runs through mid-March.
