FACEDOWN
RECORDS IS
HARDCORE
If
you are looking for your hardcore up in the mix, crisp and in your face, look
no further then the bands on Facedown Records. Recently, Facedown bands have
been showing up on The Kiln because they just flat-out have an intensity and
mission backed by musicianship that cannot be found anywhere in the hardcore
scene.
The
latest releases from Facedown includes the new
Bloodlined Caligraphy CD, They Want To Keep You
Silent. The girl fronted hardcore outfit from Michigan stylistically
are aggressive as much as they are discernable in their message. The record's
lyrics represent a community of people, standing for each other to bring forth
each person's destiny. Throughout the record, frontwoman, Ally
French encourages this community that "we got your back," as
she confronts it with truth like in the song "Hammer to Nail." Their
sound is a combination of hardcore with slight metal influences and really cool
breakdowns. The band is out on tour all summer and will hit Cornerstone this
July.
Newcomers
to The Kiln,VA Beach VA natives, Bloody
Sunday, will debut Memorial Day Weekend with songs from their new Facedown
release, To Sentence The Dead. Straightforward
hardcore with messages focused on relationship commitments made and broken.
The record opens with the track, "There's Nothing Relative About Family,"
a diatribe of offense for some one selling out their own because they would
not face fears, stand and fight for the things that mattered most.
Finally,
there is the heaviest of the three, Seventh
Star who almost broke-up after their first release with Facedown in 2003
entitled, Dead End. The band returned to
Florida in 2004 having had their van totalled, financial unrest and questions.
Exited was their frontman and their gutiarist Jai Leacock
and Brian Fahey. Mike Whitaker
could not tour. However, according to their bio, "Seventh Star knew this
is what they should be doing." They took off 2004, regrouped wrote new
stuff and went up to Boston, MA and Godcity Studios to record their new Facedown
project, Brood of Vipers. The record is
harder, metalier (if that is a word). Mike Whitaker
lent much to the writing process though he will not be on tour with the band.
For all you hardcore enthusiasts who like their music packed with God centered messages and loyal to the form musicianship, The Facedown Family is a good place to start. Listen to The Kiln Memorial Day weekend for the 3 bands to open the show with fresh hardocore.
EXTOL RETURNS TO THE USA WITH A NEW ALBUM
![]() |
|
From
Oslo Norway,
Extol
They tour this spring and summer in the USA.
|
These
Norwegian metal heads have one of the coolest records out. Extol
has gone through a severe line-up change since their 2002 release,
Thrash Synergy on Solid State. However,
that is not a bad thing. The band wanted to take it to the next level and former
guitarists, Crister and Ole decided they were not ready to take on the demands
of that full-time commitment. The band hired on former
Lengsel guitarist Tor Magne Glidje and his
friend Ole Halvard Sveen. These two brought a completely
new direction to Extol without sacrificing the musicianship and intricacies
of earlier efforts. The result is The Blueprint Dives,
a record that reaches the darkest places with tears of love and mercy. The
Blueprint Dives is not all speed, off time thrash and screaming although
Extol fans everywhere will not be disappointed either. The technical power is
in full force on The Blueprint Dives. However,
the band has definitely refined some things for the sake of conveying truly
amazing heart messages bordering on worship that speaks back and forth to God
in first person. The Blueprint Dives is
nothing short of mesmerizing - a truly gripping work.
The band is going to be in the USA starting next week and going throughout the fruited plain before stopping at Cornerstone USA. The first single, "Pearl" hits the Torch on Saturday April 16th. More of The Blueprint Dives debuts on The KIln Saturday night at 11PM EST.
OFFICER NEGATIVE PRESENTS THE DEATH CAMPAIGN
Outspoken and
grace filled punk evangelist, Chad Higgins has
given the full story to the rise and possible subsequent fall of the Death
Campaign. Metamorphosing out of members of Officer
Negative and LA death metal band, Akeldama,
The
Death Campaign was and maybe still is a passionate pursuit of pure spirtual
beauty cloaked in the glory of great metal compositions. With anthemic keyboard
atmospherics and the best of hardcore and prog along with Chad's willingness
to explore the beautiful side of Jesus' romantic heart, The
Death Campaign is anything but the end of life. This record will heal
your broken metal heart...
Indie Scene: STILL REMAINS DELIVERS! PROJECT 86 MENDS RELATIONSHIP W/ T & N.
Still
Remains is a new band out of the Ohio State region. Their new 5 song
EP, If Love Was Born To Die is a a great
first effort with a mixture of 80's shred and 21st century crunch. This record
is not a Ch-chunk record! It is pure progressive metal. Project
86 is a modern metal prog outfit that keeps getting thrown in the trash
by the industry. Their last release, Truthless Heroes
was not well received and was called "dark." Perhaps it was too personal
for some. THE KILN consumed it wholeheartedly as
it properly indicted music industry and media's hypocrosy. Project
86 was dropped by Atlantic and stuffed in
the can of obscurity. The band fought and was all set to do it themselves and
formed Team Black Recordings. The follow-up is
Songs To Burn Your Bridges By.
Tooth
& Nail CEO, Brandon Ebel, sat down with
the band and mended past transgressions. Forgiveness is beautiful! The band
and label backed up their words and forged onward in their relationship.
Ebel stated, Drawing
Black Lines has been my favorite Project
86 release, and I love the new direction this album is taking, as a continuation
to that Drawing Black Lines.
Lead vocalist, Andrew
Schwab, states, "They really
are a completely different label with a completely different vision as compared
to what they were a few years ago. We feel that our fans will appreciate the
fact that both sides made huge efforts to move forward from the past into a
successful future." They went up
to Seattle and recorded 3 more songs with Aaron Sprinkle
producing. The record was also remixed and remastered too and features 16-pages
of artwork. The band will head out on the road soon in support of Songs
To Burn Your Bridges By.
Demon
Hunter
is a coming forth with their long awaited follow-up to their 2002 self-titled
release. Summer of Darkness is hitting the
stores! The new single on XM 31 is "My Heart Strings Come Undone!"
The CD will obviously feature many songs on The Kiln
so stay tuned. Summer Of Darkness once
again features Aaron Sprinkle at the producer helm.
The band is known for their revolving door of players in the studio. However,
brothers, Don & Ryan
Clark are the upfront co-inspirers, with Jesse
Sprinkle, Kris McCaddon.Will the
Masked Avenger be there this Summer of Darkness?
Go find out when they head out on the road! Their tour begins on June 11 in
Seattle and criss-crosses the great fruited plain through most of July! Keep
it locked at The Kiln and

ZAO
- The Funeral Of God

Zao has been an underground force. What is amazing about that statement is the fact that they are uncompromising in their lyrical content. With the switch of label representation to Ferret Music, Zao has taken the depth of their genre to a new level. Their latest release, The Funeral of God, explores the question, "What if God decided to remove himself from existence and just 'die?'" The result is the most crushing metal record in the genre in a long time. Even when Dan Weyandt was being overt in expressing Christian truths, you knew based on the delivery he believed with as much merciful pleading as dogmatic conviction. The spirit of Zao expresses the heart of God like no other band has in a long time, emoting the transcendency of Love with the technical dogma of speed and thrash, orchestration and avant tunings as well as a dark vision of reality. Zao is back and their rebirth and reign is not complete without the "death" of God. Well, on earth at least....
